DARC member Malthe Stavning Erslev receives runner-up award

Malthe Stavning Erslev’s PhD Dissertation, Machine Mimesis, was selected as the runner-up for The N Katherine Hayles Award for Criticism of Electronic Literature

The N Katherine Hayles Award for Criticism of Electronic Literature is an annual award administered by the Electronic Literature Organization, which identifies and celebrates outstanding contributions to the field of electronic literature.

Erslev’s dissertation focuses on the reciprocal imitation happening between humans and computers in the age of generative artificial intelligence – a dynamic he coins as the titular machine mimesis. By establishing and rethinking the role of mimesis in contemporary generative literature, the dissertation offers a series of conceptual, analytical, and practice-based contributions to the field. Erslev completed his PhD project as an integrated member of DARC.
