Generative AI presents a new set of challenges to public libraries related to questions of quality and literacy in a world where word-on-demand systems have become commonplace. The DARC-affiliated project HAIC-III addresses such questions via practice and encounter in the public library space, through a curated exhibition (running through June 2026), and public event (23 June, 2026), and a full-day seminar (24 June) for professionals/librarians working in public libraries.

The exhibition “Er der brug for mennesker?” (trans: Is there any use for humans?) presents a series of artistic or literary treatments of generative AI, all of which revolve around experimental (mis)use of the technology to sustain specific modes of expression. The exhibition presents the following works:

The public event and librarian seminar both revolved around a presentation from Ada Ada Ada ("When Art and the Body Meet AI") focusing on generative AI in relation to the body and a presentation of the exhibition by Søren Pold. The librarian seminar ("The Ghost in the Machine") also featured talks from Scott Rettberg, Malthe Stavning Erslev, Søren Pold and Martha Flyvholm Tode.
